Jones Academy and Hartshorne Public Schools celebrated Native American Heritage Month on November 3 by hosting a stickball demonstration, cultural lunch, and a large powwow presentation featuring performers from all over the United States. In the morning, students across the district were taught how to play stickball and allowed to participate in a stickball game. For lunch, school child nutrition staff participated by following local recipes for Indian tacos. Representatives from multiple tribes across the United States then discussed and performed dances at the Hartshorne Event Center. We would like to express our gratitude to the Jones Academy superintendent, Patrick Moore, as well as all of the staff from Jones Academy for their help today. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the many student and adult volunteers for making this day possible.
